Helping Restore Ability was originally named "Arlington Handicapped Association" and was founded in Arlington, Texas in 1977 by Sam Provence along with John Dycus and friends. They had the belief that all people with physical disabilities have the right to participate fully in society and to live independent and active lives with dignity, respect and care.
Today, Helping Restore Ability maintains that very same belief and has expanded their services to include the entire state of Texas. Helping Restore Ability's mission is simple: To promote independence and enrich the lives of those we serve.
Currently Helping Restore Ability provides, through it's Consumer Managed Personal Attendant Service Program (CMPAS), in home attendant care to clients with severe physical disabilities, including senior citizens with age related disabilities.
Care includes assistance with basic daily living skills, such as:
| Bathing | Hair and skin care | Toileting |
| Dressing | Exercise (walking only) | Ambulation/transfers |
| Grooming | Feeding | Light house cleaning |
| Laundry | Cooking | Grocery Shopping |
